Na Na pinches her pennies (aka frugal living)

Shh… don't tell anyone I'm poor. They all think I'm living frugal and green just like everyone these days. This is a blog about a senior citizen living a frugal life, on a fixed income, in a low income food desert, and passing along knowledge from lessons learned. Some she learned from her Grandma Mama many years ago and some learned only a few days ago.

Food bank macaroni

I received a pound of elbow macaroni in a food bank box a few days ago. I like to cook it all at once.  The whole bag.  This saves me money because I’m using the stove burner only once instead of multiple times.

Food and kitchen 2015 020Gosh, I forgot just how much macaroni swells as it’s cooked.  It’s been quite awhile since I needed to cook any.

Food and kitchen 2015 022When just barely done I rinsed it in cold water to stop the cooking.

Food and kitchen 2015 023I packaged it into one cup portions which are just right for a single person dish with leftovers. I put them into the freezer.

Food and kitchen 2015 025Now I have 15 cups of pre-cooked macaroni ready for whatever recipe calls for it.  To use simply thaw and put into your recipe.
