Na Na pinches her pennies (aka frugal living)

Shh… don't tell anyone I'm poor. They all think I'm living frugal and green just like everyone these days. This is a blog about a senior citizen living a frugal life, on a fixed income, in a low income food desert, and passing along knowledge from lessons learned. Some she learned from her Grandma Mama many years ago and some learned only a few days ago.

Update on dentures

The dentist is in the process of making a new set of dentures.  No, there is no extra cost.  He had to go back to the beginning.  There are several steps starting with a mold of the gums which is then used to make a hard wax mold that simulates the teeth.  Adjustments for fit are made to the hard wax.  I went for that fitting today and it was a world of difference.  I could tell immediately the newer teeth will fit so, so much better.  It will no longer feel as if I have too much teeth and not enough mouth.

Dentures don’t fit

Next step is in a couple of weeks.  The teeth will have been fitted into the wax so I can test how they will feel and look when done.  He will make adjustments to anything necessary.  Like maybe if they feel too high or low anywhere around the mouth.  If perhaps a tooth looks crooked he can straighten it.  And stuff like that.  If all the steps go as planned I should have a new set of teeth to start the year off right.  That will be after their winter break.  Both of us are happy with the decision to start all over again.

Soooo glad you are getting your teeth redone. It is important so you can eat properly and for digestion. I know you can’t wait for the new ones.

Thanks, I’m a very patient person. I simply concentrate on the long term benefits which makes the wait easier.

That all sounds good! You can eat your special New Year’s meal, whatever it is in your area, and really enjoy it!

In our area it would be black-eyed peas and collard greens for luck and money. But leaving a bit on the plate til past midnight to keep the fortunes flowing into the new year.

Oh, I never heard that last part about leaving some on the plate. Interesting.

There is also the saying you should not eat lobster because they travel backwards and could lead to setbacks in the new year. Don’t each chicken because it scratches backward and could cause financial regrets. Don’t eat any kind of winged fowl because you could see your money or good luck fly away.

Ha, those are all good! Up here in Pa Dutch country, our rule is pork and sauerkraut. I don’t know why, it’s just their way, and ours.

Maybe because pigs dig themselves in to go forward so the luck will go forward?

I just looked it up. Yes, the pork cos a pig roots forward. And the kraut cos the long strands represent long life and the green represents money. We all have such interesting traditions around the country.

Anita, you are so smart to pursue this and get it just right. We have a primary doctor here who says he thinks that good dental care Is more important to senior longevity than anything else. He talked about absorption of nutrients, germs traveling in the system, etc. This is the reason we go to Mexico twice a year for cleaning, X-rays, etc. If we had your facility, we would likely use it, but Dentists are just so expensive here in Az. Even the so called “specials” are high. Glad you are posting your experiences, because it helps people to focus on how important this is to our wellbeing.

I agree with the primary. I wish I had known more about it earlier in my life.
