Na Na pinches her pennies

Shh… don't tell anyone I'm poor. They all think I'm living frugal and green just like everyone these days. This is a blog about a senior citizen living a frugal life, on a fixed income, in a low income food desert, and passing along knowledge from lessons learned. Some she learned from her Grandma Mama many years ago and some learned only a few days ago.

Google plus going away

In January I received a notice that Google + is going away and I should download my data before April 2.  What I can’t figure out is how it will impact my wordpress blogs.  When I click on the link for more info all I see is posts from my wordpress blogs and an orange warning banner at the top telling me I should download my data right away.  If you click the photo you get a closer look.

So does this mean my blogs are going away?  I haven’t a clue.  I always thought Google + was just a way for readers to give a thumbs up to a blog post or a youtube video but apparently I’m wrong about that.  I’ve google searched for more information and only got more confused.  I can’t deal with the stress of figuring it all out.  My daughter has had a sixth surgery on her broken leg and she is my number one concern.  Whatever happens to my blogs is going to happen without me creating more stress in my life.  If my blogs go away they simply go away.  I’ll wait until after April 2 to figure out whether I need to create my blog again or if I’ll be able to carry on as usual.

Anita, I was wondering if you were still doing quilts, so I popped over to your quilt blog and see that you haven’t posted there lately. Just wondering.

No, I’m retired. Not doing quilts for myself either so there is nothing to post on the quilting blog.

I THINK that the change is for people who host their pictures on Google + and then embed them onto their webpages. In other words, they upload their pictures to Google+, rather than to WordPress. I’m pretty sure you upload your pictures to WordPress, and so it shouldn’t be affected?

This article pretty much seems to say not to worry: Only people who used GOOGLE PLUS (which I guess was like facebook) are being affected. Your normal google account should be fine.

Have no fear! All of your blogging data is stored with WordPress. What you see on google is just a link image to send your readers to your blog on WordPress’ servers. Think of Google+ (G+) postings for your blog as the old fashioned message board at the grocers or the post office where you stapled it up and it contained a pone number or business address. At some point the PO or Grocer may pull down all the messages to clear the board, but you still exist in your business at home or in your office right? Ergo: Carry on as usual! 🙂

Now if you posted something on G+ and it was only ever posted to G+, then you will have to download it. Does this help you?

Your blog is on the site, your videos are on youtube, totally separate, nothing to do with Google Plus. Google Plus is where on would post snippets from blogs and youtubes etc, in the vain hope that someone would go to google plus, see though snippets, and then go over to the actual blog. But it was all for naught, the streets of Google Plus were inhabited only by tumble weeds, it never took off. I doubt you created original content there that lives only there, so just let it vanish without worry.

I don’t get any notice like that from WordPress. I didn’t know Google + was connected with WordPress at all? Did you ask for a tech and a WordPress chat? They are pretty responsive.

Google plus was a paid content storage plan kinda like flicker. I think the new popular content storage is called the cloud?

    Hi Anita,
Don’t even worry about Google +…this warning is only if you were an active user of the service and used it for more than sharing your blogs (like your personal life, sharing pics and interacting with other people on there). Let me assure you: Your WordPress blogs will stay put on WordPress. Google + is only another sharing outlet.
