Na Na pinches her pennies

Shh… don't tell anyone I'm poor. They all think I'm living frugal and green just like everyone these days. This is a blog about a senior citizen living a frugal life, on a fixed income, in a low income food desert, and passing along knowledge from lessons learned. Some she learned from her Grandma Mama many years ago and some learned only a few days ago.

Canning pickle beets

I created another video as I learn more about the process of editing videos for youtube.  One more small step in the learning process.  Have a look and let me know what you think.  I did shorten it but its still about twenty minutes long.

I made some mistakes but I’ve learned how to delete them.  I also learned how to include comments inside the video that explain what I forgot to mention while filming.  Learning it doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll remember it.  I started writing notes about the steps for later.  Kinda the same as being in school.  😉

My camera battery ran out just at the end of the video so it was an abrupt end.  I’ll work more on keeping track of the time.  Maybe, if its not too expensive, I could buy another battery.  This one has a Li-ion battery that seriously worries me.  I worry about a fire hazard.

It never occurred to me to do a full pickle process with canned beets. I do a quick cold pickle with the beets to add flavor though i havent been doing it lately.

Good going with the video taping!

It’s a pleasure to see your video skills growing! I’m about your age and would hesitate to tackle the learning curve. Admire you very much for what you are doing and also for sharing your canning knowledge!

My curiosity often takes me in unexpected directions. I like the ease of using a camera to share.

My hubby likes pickled beets, I don’t, so I make them every other year or so. This year’s beet crop was dismal so the entire crop made about 4.5 quarts. Not going to last two years! 🙂

You now have a back up plan when you run out and he’s having a pickle beet craving. Pick a batch from the rows of metal covered beets in the grocery garden.
