Na Na pinches her pennies

Shh… don't tell anyone I'm poor. They all think I'm living frugal and green just like everyone these days. This is a blog about a senior citizen living a frugal life, on a fixed income, in a low income food desert, and passing along knowledge from lessons learned. Some she learned from her Grandma Mama many years ago and some learned only a few days ago.

Gofundme refunds sent

I first want to say a sincere THANK YOU to all the generous people who donated money to the gofundme campaign. It warmed my heart to know so many people cared and trusted me to do the right thing with the money.

This morning I refunded all the gofundme donations because I don’t feel right about keeping it. A couple of people said for me to keep their donation but the steps to close the campaign was easiest by refunding all. Anyone who truly wants to donate to my teeth fund can do it through the paypal link in the tip jar. I was keeping a total for everyone to see and have now stopped doing that for safety reasons.

I have a savings account specifically to keep my teeth funds. Every penny possible is going into that savings. I found a quarter on the ground when I set the trash can out. That is also going to the teeth fund.

The CV19 cases are on the rise again all over the country. Kentucky too. I won’t be going to the dentist again until its safe to go. Maybe by the fall? Maybe next spring? It will be when the covidiots stop playing rushing roulette with other people’s lives. Until then I’ll do the best I’m able to eat healthy without teeth.

There are some blog readers who don’t understand why I can’t use regular dentures. Its because of a deformity in the roof of my mouth. I’ve had two different sets of regular dentures made and I couldn’t wear them. A brief explanation is that in order to form the suction the top has to go over that deformity which means making them too long. Too long creates a gag reflex. I can’t eat if I’m gagging on the teeth. When I discovered there was such a thing as snap in dentures it seemed to be the perfect answer to my problem. Except for the cost.

The wealthy stay healthy because they can afford it. The poor do the best they can with healthcare crumbs. Please believe me when I say I have searched and researched every week for years looking for denture options. If there was a program to help me I would have found it. If a new one comes out I’ll find it.

For now I just want to go on with my life and stop the stresses. I’ll do my best to write a blog post now and then. I won’t commit to a regular time frame because I never know when a CFS episode will happen. As I get older and more clumsy the episodes happen more often. Let’s just say I’ll take life one day at a time.

Hugs to everyone, stay safe!

I wish you the best of luck in getting in getting some help with your teeth. Too bad the Gofund me wasn’t for you. I am sure you are not alone. It would be hard for me to ask for financial help also- especially in such a public way.

Not sure if this has been suggested before, but I wanted to p ass it along. Just in case it was new info. Have you checked in to local/regional dental colleges or medical colleges for lower cost dentures??? When I was a teen, my mom needed dentures. We were very poor. She found out that the local medical college/dental college at University of Washington (Seattle) had a dental program where all of the dental students as part of their residency experience helped the public. All treatment and visits are overseen by the teaching faculty who are licensed. There’s a lengthy waiting list and you have to be approved and probably wait a bit. It’s not like you just make an appointment for the date most convenient. Still, it was a godsend for us. My mom loved the dentures she received. I’ve since learned this is quite common for teaching universities with medical schools and dental schools. You might want to make a list of all of the medical teaching hospitals around you and start seeing if its an option
. Even if in a neighboring state. The cost savings could make a hotel stay worth it. Good luck to you.

Thank you for the suggestion. I’m going to let it rest and live without teeth for awhile. Dental schools are not free. They charge the same as any dentist. The dental school (University of Louisville) gave me an estimate of $12,000+ that being the minimum and other items to be added later. Read this post from July 6th. Hi, Anita. I’ve enjoyed your blog for several years; you have a great depth and breath of knowledge about practical things that could help anyone who’s trying to save money. You could write a book about common sense ways to save money, sharing your knowledge, including things your grandma taught you. You are one of the most sweet and humble people I’ve come across on the internet.

I admire your courage in sharing little pieces of yourself with your readers, making you vulnerable to people who enjoy criticizing other people. Internet trolls are an especially vicious special type of psychic vampire. They would likely question the motives of Mother Teresa or even Jesus, and try the patience of a saint. The really good ones can have you questioning yourself, until and unless you recognize that they get pleasure from the pain of other people. I really hope you obtain the funds for your teeth. Take care and stay safe.
